Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

IMG_3863Santa Cruz is one of my favorite places in NorCal! The boardwalk transformed me into a scene from The Lost Boys, which hopefully we can agree is pretty fantastic, right?! From the amusement rides, the arcades, and the beaches; to the wharf, shops, and restaurants…Santa Cruz is a fun, seemingly magical, place!

IMG_3823IMG_3822IMG_3851Something about Santa Cruz Beach feels so quintessentially California to me.  No, it’s not SoCal with the scorching beaches and flawless bodies. However, it’s such a pretty beach with kids playing in tide pools, teens surfing waves, groups competing in volleyball, and everyone enjoying the delights of summer.

The arcades and amusement rides add to this magical feeling. Sure, it’s expensive and a bit cheesy. However, everyone gets to be a kid here! You’ll find an indoor miniature golf course, laser tag, bowling alley, fortune tellers, and plenty of (child-friendly) slot machines. There’s even an adults only casino on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Amusement park rides include roller coasters, bumper cars, swings,  a ferris wheel, haunted castle, and so much more. You’ll also find the 1911 Looff Carousel, which is a National Historic Landmark. There are even a handful of rides for the preschool set.

IMG_3859The Santa Cruz Wharf is an adventure in it’s own right. Although you are able to drive and park on the wharf, we’ve always just walked along it. Shops and restaurants adorn the wharf, offering amazing views of the beach boardwalk. Nearing the end of the pier, we were delighted to find a large family of sea lions, sunbathing and frolicking beneath us. There’s a good chance you’ll spot other wild and marine life on this expansive stretch.

We all could use a little magic in our lives. The beach is a great place to start!
